J SELF is a self made entrepreneur from Chicago’s south side. J began breakdancing to music from hip-hop icons like DJ Kool Herc and Grandmaster Flash before he developed a passion for rhyming. J was discovered by Chicago’s very own Mark Ingram who is an accomplished musician, singer, and producer. He foresaw the greatness in a young J SELF and spearheaded the recording of J’s first single “Say What”. Later J decided to educate himself with the inner/outer workings of the industry, so he registered and attended the 107.5 WGCI Chicago Music Seminars. There he learned many self-start methods used by hip-hop moguls such as Master P, P Diddy, and Russell Simons. J then begins to align himself with true movers and shakers of the industry to score numerous opening act performances for some of the biggest names in hip-hop. He has opened concerts/shows for Busta Rhymes, Eve, Mystical, Elephant Man, and even Jay-Z‘s after party in Chicago. J didn't stop there, he has put Chicago on notice by winning the 107.5 WGCI “Freshest MC Contest” and having his hit single “Say What” place in rotation with local DJ’s. Today J SELF is a permanent staple on the Chicago music & entertainment scene with his face on commercials, as well as top rated cable shows like “Real Flava” TV. Currently J is co-starring in a cable comedy series sitcom about the music industry, it’s slated for nation-wide release later this fall.
